Documentary is a depiction or direct filming ("cinema verité") of a real life situation rather than a fictional story. Feature is a reduction of the term "main feature" from the days when not only the main movie would be shown but also some news real footage and/or cartoons. Now we just say "feature-length" to mean a full-length or standard-length film presentation. Some authorites suggest that this must be over 70 minutes else it should be classified as a "short feature" or just "a short".

In addition to this forum, you should make use of the libraries in your community. Lots of shaky information is presented on the Internet. You cannot often depend on its authenticity.

By mere definition a distinctive line is drawn between a documentary and fiction. Fiction is said to be a transitory world of make believe. Where transitory suggests the reenactment of reality. John Grieson defines documentary at the other hand as a creative treatment of actuality. Where actuality is given much reference.By contrats with documentary we asumme that a fiction film presents imaginary beings, places or events.

Even though I am not an expert on this field , my understanding is as follows:
A Documentary Film is a Video Film that focusses on a particular Topic or a Group of Topics of National or International Relevance. A topic can be Poaching of Tigers in a Wildlife Sanctuary, or Employment of under age children in Hazardous Industry . It can also be an International Topic like Israel-Palestine Conflict.

A Feature film on the other hand is more geared towards showing a Fictional Story to viewers . It can also be based on True Life figures but uses Movie male and Female Actors.
It can have songs ( more so in Bollywood !) , Fight Scenes, Special Animations , other Digital Effects . It can also be a science fiction -like Star Wars or Comic based movies like Batman series , Superman Series ; totally cut off from Real Life and so on .

A lot of difference.. a documentary is meant to visualize some real life event in a movie form.. it is meant to propagate the reality amoongst the audience.. for an example a documtary on wildlife protection.. may user any state.. as a theme.. or any place where trees are felled indiscriminately.. or having low total area being green.a feature film as and when begins.. clearl indicated that the story line and characters are PURELY A WORK OF FICTION.. and any resemblance to any character living or dead is PRELY CO INCIDENTAL..that is my opinion..
