read your post and can partialy relate to your situation. Before I lost my health insurance and was still seeing my old doctor, she suddenly switched me to Klonopin after being on .05mg Xanax for almost 3 years.
All I can really tell you about it from my experience is that it did not work at all for my anxiety and it actually caused me to have insomnia. I was also terrified of having an attack in public, and to make it worse, I was out of work because of a work related injury. I became severely depressed, and the only time I left my house was to go to doctor's appointments and physical therapy. I think that the lack of social interaction that I was used to made my depression worse, but Klonopin was not effective enough for me to be able to motivate myself into going "out there" and doing the things I needed to do. Prior to taking Klonopin, I had also never had a major depressive episode or disorder. I was being treated for anxiety disorder and panic attacks only.
I do remember feeling like I was in a foggy state while I was on them, and oddly enough, I began to develop problems with impulse control. I wound up almost draining my savings account and maxing out my credit cards buying a bunch of things off an online auction website that I really didn't need. This was definitely not normal for me, considering that before I was switched to Klonopin, I never had any problems maintaining a budget. Talk about weird adverse side-effects?
But my situation aside, if you feel as if you're at the point where you're fearing an anxiety or panic attack 5 months from now, you should try to schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible and ask to be switched back to Xanax. Explain to him or her that you are fearing future attacks and that you know already that Xanax works for your condition. Just be honest about how you feel.
I was fortunate enough to have an open-minded doctor, and she switched me back to Xanax after I explained to her how the Klonopin was affecting me. If your doctor is sympathetic to your condition he or she should have no reason not to prescribe you a medication you both know works. Good luck, and don't stress out. Try to enjoy your summer, first!!
Take care,
