I was born in Ohio, and my name originated in Sanskrit. If the language is dead, then why do people still use my name?

Life "or" has already answered this question. I only repeat-the Book which tells what life is all about is written in Sanskrit. If it is a dead language, I think the Americans will patent it!!

Sanskrit (संस्कृता वाक् sanskritā vāk, for short संस्कृतम् sanskritam) is a classical language of India, a liturgical language of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, and one of the 23 official languages of India. It has the same status in Nepal as well.

Its position in the cultures of South and Southeast Asia is akin to that of Latin and Greek in Europe and the Mediterranean (the Greco-Roman World) and it has evolved into many modern-day languages of the Indian subcontinent. It appears in pre-Classical form as Vedic Sanskrit, with the language of the Rigveda being the oldest and most archaic stage preserved. Dating back to as early as 1700 BC, Vedic Sanskrit is the earliest attested Indo-Aryan language, and one of the earliest attested members of the Indo-European language family.

Sanskrit is one of the most significant, holy and reverred language of india. it is not just a language but a pride of india. almost all indian languages find their origin in this great language. in fact it is the oldest language of the world and the vedas, and the greatest of all epics have been written in this language only. this language is called the janani(mother)of all languages. in actual fact some words even in the english language find their origin in this language. for example matru becomes mother. bhratru becomes brother. khaat becomes cot.
since time immemorial this language is taught to the children (atleast in india) and they are expected to maintain this language as a heritage. moreover when students from other countries are coming to learn this language it is the duty of every indian to be proud of this language and know it.

If your knowledge on a subject is poor dont
presume it is dead or bad.Which illiterate told you it is dead. The richest language literally, gramatically, culturally, religi… and ethically is sanskrit.By learning few words in english or other foreign languages dont show your ignorance so blatantly.Talk for two or thre days with some one who knows the language well and make some good observations. The sanskrit taught in schools and colleges is for marks sake and it is never taught seriously.I remember my son took french in intermedite, and his contention was it is a scoring subject. He cant speak a word of the language.I cant say French is dead and useless. Our syllbous setters are to be blamed for their ignorence and negligence.Sitting in posh A/C rooms and political backing they are spoiling our children. If parents dont watch closely what their child is doing -----?

no doubt sanskrit is a dead lingo as it is no more used in our day 2 day life. but sanskrit has much bigger status than mere a lingo. almost all hindu rituals are in sanskrit. also as mother tongue of the aaryans who conquered india in ancient times sanskrit has historical importance. keep all this apart, if one u'stands basics of this lingo properly it's certainly a scoring subject which increases %ge compared 2 ne oher language
