one connection is enough if you have a high speed broadband and a DSL or cable modem.

If you like to connect 5 computers in a wired network then you need a network switch (it available with 4 to 25 lan port) with at list 6 LAN port, lan cable (CAT5 with RJ 45 connector) for each computer. connect the computers assign there ip. and set your broadband mobem/router to act as a NAT. then you can access internet from all computer at a time.

if you planned to build up a wireless network then you need a Access point/Router, if all of your computer doesn't have a wireless network card then you need to buy wireless network card for each of them.

what kind of connection speed you have, if you have high speed , than yes, all you need is a router and some rj45 cables, or put them on a wireless network with the router

well he was kind of right, you need a router with 5 or more ports. you could also go with a 4 port wireless router and 1 wireless adapter or you could get a 4 port router and a switch to add extra ports in all cases your router has to hook to the modem and the PCs to the router. If yout using a switch you hook that to one of the ports of the router. i suggest checking www.newegg.com for routers they have good deals

If you don't have wireless card & connect to internet by Modem/Rounter.

1. Equip LAN card for every computer.
2. Use a hub/switch 8ports connect to your Rounter & share its ports for 5comp. Using cable called RJ45 connect from hub to comp through LAN card.
