Sum is simply the addition of a set of numbers.

So in your question, the equation that is a sum is letter B:

12 + 3 = 15

because the equation here is addition and the resulting answer (15) is the sum of the equation.

A. 12 - 3 = 9 is not an example of a sum because this is subtraction. The result 9 is called the "difference"
C. 12*3 = 36 is not an example of a sum because this is multiplication; 36 is called the "product," the result of multiplying 12 and 3
D. 12 divided by 3= 4 is not a sum because this is division; 4 is called the "quotient" and the result of the division.
