Are there correct figures of killings of Hindus and Sikhs during hot period of terrorism in punjab?

Oops, Sonu and Deeks, I bow to you for the responsible and rational analysis of the situation and advising the Asker properly. I regret that there are people who want to cite provocative figures to disturb the social harmony.

Do we have a Hindu army? What a shameful answer! Our army has all communities in every regiment and not divided on religion and castes basis to destroy any group of our fraternity. To insult the military which simply carry out the order of Govts to purge terrorists from anywhere - in public or private hide outs, in offices, hotels or temples / Gurdwars - is most objectionable.

During anti Hindi agitations in Tamilnad in my college days, the then ruling govt was charged of employing Kerala police to drive and arrest students. But the truth was the police were least hostile to us. But the wrong publicity did work against the rulers and t he Congress lost its power in the state, never to come back since 1967! Nor we gained anything by hating Hindi. Now the same anti hindi party leaders' children and grand children are learning Hindi and English in Delhi schools, while the leaders are still talking of Tamilisation in the home state, for public consumption!

So mispropaganda are dangerous to mislead people and perpetuate hostility, falsity and hypocrisy that serve least to integrate or benefit the nation, in any way.

If you search papers from 1980 to 1996 you can find correct figures for Hindus. For Sikhs I have anwered this which is just an estimation not correct figure.
It is very hard question and very hard to answer. I am quoting a few sources:
Bhindrawale dropped a bombshell when he said after the centre government declared president's rule in Punjab in 1983
"200 Sikhs were killed by police nothing happened, when six hindus were killed, they dismissed the state government" He also condemned killing of Hindus.
Sangat Singh in History of Sikhs page 383: 100000-120000 Sikhs might been massacred by forces of India between June 3-7, 1984 which include killings in army attack on Darbar Sahib and 42 other gurduaras as told by indian government in her white paper on this subject
4000 Sikhs died in Delhi alone(Figure presented in upper house of Indian parliament) after math of Gandhi
127 died in Kanpur, Sikhs were also killed in buses, trains etc.
and many other cities like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Bhilai, Mombay, Madras, Kolkatta etc say about thousands at these places. Trilochan Singh an MP stated figure of ten thousands in indian parliament.

There after in 1996 Cental Beaurau of India found 2097 sikhs youths were killed and cremated secretly in three cremation grounds of Amritsar alone. This incidence was described by Indian supreme court " equivalent of genocide" but none punished and also permission was not given to investigate all cremation grounds in state or any other cremation ground. If we calculate it by 100 which is minimum number and reduce the figure to 500, it will be 50000. On an average two Sikhs were killed daily by Hindu Indian forces on the name of terrorism for twelve years from 1984 to 1996. So if we reduce this to ten years instead of twelve, it will be 73000. So total figure might be or close to:
100000 + 200 +10000 + 50000 + 73000= 233200
Important point here is about 90% of them were youth, thus generations stopped to grow

Terrorism has, ruthless planners and innocent victims.of all faiths as well as killers, who are mercenaries innocently compelled or otherwise.
Revaluing such figures would generate negative thoughts leading to retaliation and more chaos.

Has US given out exact stats of Red Indians killed, Blacks killed by Ku-Kluks-klan? UK - the figures of British etc citizens killed due to IRA actions?Oz- the aboriginals killed due to Govt apathy before it was able to provide proper welfare and medical aid or due to the loss of their lands and life styles? Germany - civilians killed by Badar-Meofn[or what ever it is called] ,,Japan .............. Russia,.. China... Cuba.... SA.... France......etc the list can go on and on...

However if the aim is peace then attack the planners not figures..neither will any one provide these nor will anyone be armed after knowing these enough to stop the terror or the cause.

This answer can never be appreciated but is the only one voice of sanity that people may not endorse openly but will agree as individually and in all sence.

Sat Sri Akal Sardrdarji, the main thing we Sikhs must understand is that if our community is to thrive in todays dynamic world, we have to be secular and open minded. People like Steel boy and A.S.S. below will take our community backward like the Muslims have taken their community backwards. Read my answer, you may not agree with everything. Its your call.

As regarding your question, i believe that Rajiv Gandhi was a criminal and we Sikhs must do everything possible to remind everyone that Rajiv Gandhi said ' When a big tree falls the ground will shake' He was reffering to the brutal massacre of Sikhs.

But Rajiv Gandhi is NOT india. The people who killed Sikhs do NOT represent India. The politicians of the congress who did not care about Sikh bodies on the roads do NOT represent the Hindu Community .

SIKHS AND HINDUS

We Sikhs dont realise that we had criminals in our community too who did enough damage in return.................. The reason for this is that Hindus don’t challenge us Sikhs on on this topic. Hindus feel that their bigger problem in the country are Muslims so they try not to rake up controversial topics with us Sikhs. Because we don’t hear their viewpoint we Sikhs tend to think that 1984 was a big one sided crime. Please, lets soul search and be more realistic.

The primary tragedy is that a man has died. How he dies, how many died in one day, who killed them are important issues, but secondary issues. We say that Hindus were killed by terrorists, BUT Sikhs were killed by Congress ( Rajiv Gandhi’s orders ) We say that Hindus were killed by bullets, BUT Sikhs were killed by burning tires around their necks. We say that 3000 plus Sikhs died in 3 days, conveniently forgetting that 3000 plus Hindus have died too, over 3 years.

What I am repeating is that the primary tragedy is death. What I am stating is that there are still, today, thousands of Hindu widows, daughters, mothers crying the same way as there are Sikh widows, mothers and daughters. Both sides were wrong

We all know that last Nov , only 4 Pakistani terrorists held out in Taj for 3 days against numerous highly trained Indian commandoes. Then how could 100's of Sikh terrorists fall like 9 pins ?

Becuase the pakistani jehadis were religiously doctrinated, and had zeal behind their training. Most of the Sikhs in Operation Blue star were at best, petty thugs out to make a quick buck, at worst they were murderers. They miscalculated, they were trapped by mistake in the Golden Temple and many of them surrendered like cowards. They are an insult to the real Sikhs in the Indian Army.

The correct figures are always suppressed, the government will make you know what they want. Like the figures of Muslims killed during partition and in Jammu.

it is tragic as some lumpen elements stop trains for action against sikh riots in 1984 , but are silent against those when passengers were pulled out from busses and shot point blank
