• When you were in school (pre-k or kindergarten through high school), were you on the younger side of your class or the older side?

I was born right at the end of June (almost July), and my parents chose to have me start kindergarten the year I turned 5. This more than likely put me on the younger side of my class. Now, the cutoff date for most schools in the state where I grew up is in November or December (even though most schools in that state start in early September), but... show more

Now, the cutoff date for most schools in the state where I grew up is in November or December (even though most schools in that state start in early September), but a lot of parents/guardians of children with fall birthdays choose to have their children start kindergarten the year they turn 6, as opposed to starting the year they turn 5. However, given that I was also one of the taller students in my class (well, until high school), so I'm pretty sure I would have felt weirder had I been on the older side, than I did being on the younger side. My dad, on the other hand, said he hated being on the younger end of his class (his birthday is in early December). But he said part of that was because he wasn't very tall at all! My mom was born in January, so she might not have been on either end. She also wasn't very tall.

  • Why is it ok if adults set personal boundaries, but not if kids set personal boundaries? This doesn't make sense to me.?

After all, if we teach kids that they are being rude, bratty, selfish, or other terms that have negative connotations, every time they stand their ground, how are they going to be able to keep themselves out of trouble as tweens, teens, and adults? I mean, we always coach kids in using "I" statements instead of "you" statements. Isn't it kind of hypocritical for adults use "you" statements instead of "I" statements when talking to children. If you think about it, statements like, "you are being........," "you always........," "you never........," "you need to be more........," and, "you need to learn not to be so........," are "you" statements that adults and older kids often use when talking to kids. Why don't adults and older children just try tell kids things like, "I feel/felt ________," "I would really like it if ________," "I don't like it when ________?" If adults and older children say this kind of stuff to kids, then kids might learn to state how they feel or what they want, without placing the blame on other people.

  • Why do a lot of neurotypical people think people with Autism don't care about others?

I have a very mild form of Autism, and I absolutely hate being told that I am being selfish, or that I don't care about others! I actually care very deeply about others, I just don't always show it in a way most neurotypical people would understand.

  • How common are conjoined pumpkins?

I know this question is a bit random and out of season, but I was just curious. We took some friends pumpkin picking one fall, and one of them picked a conjoined pumpkin, but that's the only time I have ever seen one in real life (I have seen some pictures of condoned pumpkins online, though).
