I know dogs can definitely read body language, tone of voice & facial expressions, even smell emotions like fear & anger. But do they understand that when you do something that they don t like, that it s with good intentions?
My mum will be shaving my dog, she doesn t like to be shaved. Some dogs will snap or bite you if you re doing something to them that they don t like, some dogs don t bite or snarl. When I m present & my mum is shaving her, I will comfort her by stroking her & saying "it s okay" with a soothing voice. She doesn t bite, growl, or give off an angry body language, but then again she is a friendly dog. Does that mean she knows we have good intentions, she knows we need to shave her, & she knows that we would never try to hurt her if she doesn t react out of annoyance & stress? Or is that simply because she s a friendly dog with no bad bone in her body?
