I spoke to a navy recruiter and he said he could get me to meps and out and back from boot and mos training in time before my academy date. Reserves is appealing because I’d like to military expirence. Any reservist here?

My grandma gave me my grandpa's navy cross now that he's gone. What should I do with it?

Best answer: It is an honor given to you for safe keeping. Whenever you look at it, it will remind you of your grandfather. For right now, I would just tell you to keep it in a safe place, perhaps your top drawer. Later you can have it framed and mounted on the wall of your room. I have always wanted to be a pilot. I also would like to be an optometrist as well in my later life. I am curious as to if I should join my college AFROTC to try and obtain a pilot slot. I would then go to med school after this. Is that even possible? Is it possible to become an optometrist through the Air Force after my flying commitment? Should I even bother taking pre-medical classes at my college if I decide to put off attending med school? I just need some advice in general on how (if possible) to adapt both of my goals into one plan. Thank you!

My school didn’t hand out diplomas at graduation, we had to go to school in the days following the ceremony to pick up our diplomas. I kinda just put it off til my recruiter called me and told me I needed to bring it in for scanning tomorrow. Well I went today to get it, and nobody can find it! They looked thru all the filing cabinets, in all the offices, called hella people, and still couldn’t locate it. Now I am a high school grad, I completed all my courses. They gave me a copy of my transcripts with a graduation date and diploma type along with a school seal and principal signature, but it’s still not my diploma. They said they could order one but I leave in 3 days and t won’t get here on time. So my question is will the army take it? I called my recruiter and told him my situation and he said he’d get back with me. Also will I lose my enlistment bonus if I fail to ship on time due to my school losing my diploma?

I was discharged from the Navy for depression in August of 2017. I had made an attempt on my own life during A-School and spent some time in the hospital and was put on medication. I was improving significantly and all the instructors at my A-School said it wasn’t likely to end my career. But unfortunately I was separated with an RE4 out on my DD 214 after working alongside the school staff for 3-4 months, to the surprise of many in the school house. I’ve been really dying to get back in for a while now but I have to idea where to start. I understand it’s extremely unlikely, but I want to at least try. I still have references from my superiors at A-School who all saw me as a hard worker, and a couple of them to this day disagree with my being separated. Where do I start when it comes to this? I’ll do whatever it takes, I just need to know where to begin.

I’m nervous that I will get disqualified I really don’t want to get disqualified this is my dream, I remember sitting at meps with my counselor and I had to talk to a guy on the phone and he asked me various questions about my family and other things that pertained to me, was that my security clearance? My best friend since 6th grade started using meth our senior year of highschool. He barely graduated and has been in and out of rehab ever since. Disappearing for a year or two at a time. Then out of nowhere he will come back into town clean and says he went through a rehab program in california. He remains clean for a month or two too usually and we hang out the whole time he comes back around but he always relapses. When he does it starts small. He will snort a small amount and still be fairly sober. He maintains this for usually a month or 2 before he starts to use more heavily until he winds up in a hospital and his family send him back to treatment and I dont see him again for another year. I really miss my friend and even though hes a meth addict he still feels like my best friend. His mom called me about a week ago and told me hes out of treatment and is doing well. I was excited and really thought he was done. He came over and hung out with me for a whole week. Tword the end of the week I caught him red handed snorting some meth. I was very sad. I told him he shouldnt do that then I just overlooked it until he went home. Ever since hes been calling me and trying to hang out. My brother told me to not hang out with him anymore because of his problem. Id really like to spend time with him and see him still because of all the years we have been friends. Nobody knows that hes still doing meth but me and I dont know what to do.

My husband and i are from San Diego and we are stationed in Illinois,my husband has been in AA for a while due to his addiction with alcohol. Just a week ago, my husband and i went back to san diego to visit family and during that time he got drunk and got a DUI. Long story short i had no idea that he had been arrested because at that time i was doing my own thing with my family, i got the call from him saying he was arrested and went to bail him out. His court date is in the middle of July and I'm wondering if we can get the case transferred over from California to Illinois? as well as if this is his first offense, what are the possible things that can happen? i know that while he has been in AA they told him that if he ever gets a DUI its considered failed treatment and the Navy would separate him. If separation does occur, will the Navy pay for us to move back home? how long does the separation process usually take? my husband has a year left in the Navy if that helps with any of the answers thank you in advance and I'm only asking these things just to prepare on what has yet to come!

Best answer: You don't just "switch" branches. There is no program that allows that. You would ENLIST in one branch. At the end of your service obligation, you would ENLIST in another branch. Because you had already served, completed initial entry training, and had a discharge, you would enlist in the new branch as PRIOR SERVICE. Depending on the length of time, your rank, your training, and the current policies in place it may not be possible. USUALLY, you will not have to repeat basic or initial entry training. You would have to get trained for the new job. USUALLY, you enter at the same rank or 1 lower than what you had when you left the previous branch.

The reason services do not like prior service, whether they are from another branch or from Guard/Reserves, is that prior service takes the spot of someone currently on active duty that would be re-enlisting. Each branch manages their strength numbers expecting to lose a few each year due to separation or not being promoted. When an "external" person is thrown into the middle, it changes the expected numbers. It could mean that a current service member on active duty isn't allowed to re-enlist or doesn't get promoted. That isn't good for morale and means the service is getting an unknown quantity. The services really only open up to prior service when they are increasing in strength or having trouble retaining people. Around 2006-2007, the Army was actively recruiting servicemembers that had left the Navy or Air Force.
