  • I feel guilty for eating meat?

This is a serious question and I'm not joking: Ok so I just saw a video that hit me hard. It shows how the cattle in the Halal Slaughter are killed and the process and it shows them literally crying and tortured through the process and it kinda put guilt in my mind and is really making me feel like a sick human being. Why? Why do people do this? Do we really need to kill innocent animals for our own selfish survival? Why can't we just eat vegetables? Why?

I have had no luck with Jasmati or Basmati rice at the 2 to 1 ratio of water to rice as usually stated on the packages.

  • Is grocery shopping every two weeks unreasonable? How often do you grocery shop?

I'm a college student so therefore I'm on a pretty tight budget. So far I've made 2 grocery trips, 2 weeks apart. It almost seems like 2 weeks is too soon to go back. I buy exactly what I need each time, and nothing ever gets wasted. Most items I'm worried about "bulking up" on because they're perishable. Additionally, I think I spent about $70 each trip. Thoughts? Unfortunately I live by some of the most expensive grocery stores so something to think about.

Best answer: Yes. In California smoking at work was just starting to get phased out in the 80s. You want to freak out? In the 80s there were smoking and non smoking sections on airplanes. Like it mattered. the smoke went everywhere. Restaurants were, I think, the first places that started phasing out smoking. And bars were the last. I remember it was something like '95 when the town I lived in went "smoke free". And that was just inside public places. Up until then people still smoked in the coffee shops and book stores. And this is California. I bet there were places that didn't go smoke free till the turn of the century. One of my favorite jokes in the 90s was that the big difference between a Junior College and a High School is that a Junior College had ashtrays.

Drinking at work was sort of dependent on how high on the totem pole you were. But lots of people went out to lunch and had a drink. Some businesses made an effort to curtal it. Some cities didn't allow bars to be too close to factories.

With drinking and smoking it was sort of crazy how permissive our society used to be. Now we have zoning laws that don't allow bars and liquor stores too close to some places. and the no smoking zone includes the area outside near the door. And there are laws that restrict the advertising of tobacco and alcohol. You ever see the Flinstone commercial for Winstons?

In the 60s, my dad was the boss, and he had a bar and an ashtray in his office.

I've watched a few episodes of Mad Men. And I lived thru those yeas. Yes that is exactly what it used to be like. Although my mom never let me play with dry cleaning bags, I did get to ride on the rear deck of her car. On the freeway. At 70 miles an hour. Of course seat belts weren't installed in cars back then so it probably didn't matter.

Its amazing that so many of us baby boomers made it out of the 60s.
