• Why do American houses have so little lights?

They have like small bulbs on the ceiling and lots of table lamps. Why don't they just use fluorescent lights in every room? Won't that be much brighter? Is the electricity bill in US that expensive?

  • Can the heating element and the oven rack touch?

The top element in my electric oven is drooping down. It still heats just fine but I have to cook a turkey today and I was wondering if it was safe to use the oven rack to hold the heating element up while cooking. Please help I’m trying to surprise my family with a big dinner.

My wife and I spent $4700 in Lowe's on new appliances. We were able to take the over-the-range microwave and new electric oven. We get home and it took almost 4 hours to install the microwave as I had to tape up templates and deal with instructions that almost required a magnifying glass to read. Got the microwave up, then wheel the oven into the house. We got the plastic bands cut and box top off, and realized it was the wrong oven, the cheaper version of the one we paid for. Difference of $200. The model number was off by one number, so thus the reason for the mix up. What should I ask Lowe's to do? Will they give me any refund for the terrible inconvenience? We did not have plans to take back an oven and bring back the correct one. A total diversion of time we need to make sure our house is clean for Thanksgiving.

Mice have been known to get into them, so making things rodent proof is quite tricky. If you know they can get through a hole about the same diameter as a biro you can see that you need quite a fine mesh.

I get the odd mouse from next door, but as I am fussy about not leaving food around they don't tend to settle.

I put unopened packets that I use whole into large clip on lidded plastic boxes. See thru so I can tell what I have.
If mice can't smell food they won't investigate. Packet soups are one of the most vulnerable.

Anything else like rice goes into plastic cartons from IKEA. http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/45250_PE14...

They particularly like paracetamol capsules I have found, which probably kills them. So they get boxed up as well.

If you suspect mice, wash everything down with bleach, and try deterrents like peppermint oil which they do not like.

  • Can urine kill grass?

So I normally go for a walk around a near by lake almost every day and I normally take a piss behind this particular tree whenever I need to, but I've been noticing that the grass patch I piss on is dying, which used to be completely full of green healthy grass. So can urine kill grass?
