Are these the real homes of Palestinians in Gaza after Israel's multiple attacks?
Favourite answer:While I'm sure that is unfortunately someone's home, I wouldn't call this representative of all the homes in Gaza. I wouldn't even say that's the average.
Gaza, or rather the ruling party Hamas, is at war with Israel and they make no attempts at peace. This does force Israel's hand at times, since they have an obligation to protect their people too; and, at times, that may require military action. Israel does go in often to neighborhoods because that's where Hamas maintains its weapons caches, ones obviously designated for anti-Israel purposes.
One thing to note is that the Israeli army targets weapons and Hamas officials specifically, not civilians. It's been shown countless times that Israel does try to evacuate these areas before they strike, with phone calls, air-dropped leaflets, and even "roof knocking" tactics to get people to leave. The people are in an unfortunate situation, but I wouldn't define them as survivors of Israeli aggression: They're victims of an unfortunate circumstance, one maintained more by Hamas' hawkish action than Israeli desires as so many mistakenly believe. Israel has given billions in aid to Gaza since their withdrawal, and the amount in medical aid alone should tell you that Israel does care for human life that is not Israeli or even not Jewish. Hell, the entire conflict has a rather low death total, compared to others happening worldwide. Israel still has to act because it protects its citizens, and honestly what else is there to do when they threaten you with rockets, with incendiary balloons, and people functioning under a doctrine which is explicit and blunt about outright murdering them?
Gaza still has nice places in it, some luxury ones even. The entire strip is not as you depict, and I've seen some Israeli blogs show pictures of the Strip where people are living normal lives. Going to the beach, eating at nice restaurants, celebrating the opening of large malls and shopping in them... normal things that people elsewhere in the world can't experience. This isn't to say Gaza doesn't have its issues, but that it's not a f***ing concentration camp as so many people mistakenly believe. I honestly hope that one day Israel doesn't have to worry about the threat in Gaza, but that is simply not the case. And honestly, people like those above probably could live in a better home if only the billions of aid earmarked for construction wasn't misappropriated by Hamas. They use what construction materials and funds they get to help fund their campaign against Israel, which only continues their suffering.
As for Cyprus: I don't too terribly much of the Cypriot vs. Northern Cyprus issue. I at least know of the Turkish invasion and its continuation of Greek-Turkish hostilities; but, I do believe that Greek Cypriots don't expect to live like that. So why drop "#FREECYPRUS?
