Fortunately there are many alternatives - and many of them are actually free.

I personally like Avast (avast.com) It's effective, and doesn't bog down your computer. Avast offers additional features if you want to upgrade to their paid version but the free version has been sufficient for me.

AVG is another free anti-virus scanner which also provides additional features if you upgrade to the paid version. Friends of mine have used the free version for years with no problems.

Malware Bytes started out as a free malware detection and removal program - which I suggest you also download. However it now offers a paid subscription version which includes an anti-virus scanner. I highly suggest you download Malware Bytes even if you don't use its anti-virus feature. It's very effective at detecting malware (which anti-virus programs don't detect) and if you do get infected, it can remove them.

Every time I try to reach out to a company for this reason, I get rejected because I am still a student without a degree. How can I get a company’s attention and/or use this skill to make money?

I have put up a WiFi repeater about halfway between the router and my PC, and the PC can connect to the repeater but has no internet access. It says “connected” but can’t connect to anything. So I switched the WiFi to the main router and the connection is INCREDIBLY slow. It’s ridiculous. I don’t know why my PC has so much trouble yet my xbox works just fine. And I can’t move my router because it is via dsl. What should I do to fix this issue?!

  • 240V computer monitor in US?

Even where 240v circuits are available in the US sometimes there are operability issues due to neither conductor being a ground reference.

In the off chance that lightning does strike your power line, your surge protector will stop the voltage surge from getting to your electronics. Even if your surge protector fails, most high end electronics (like laptops) have built in surge protection.
