Ganesh festival and Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in Mumbai:
Festival of lord ganesha is the most happening festival in mumbai. This festive season come in September and well known for ganapati decoration and mandap organizers who decorates and builds up a temperory 10 days mandup to place the idol (ganesh murti) with all lightings.
Hindu peoples like gujarati and marathi keeps lord ganesh idol for worship at there home and do Aarti (prayers) daily twice. There are many names of lord ganesha, few of them are Ganapati, Vigna Harta, Bappa, vakratunda, and lots more.
Best part is the decoration at every home, a small temple specially made. Sometime simple with fruits and fire light (deep, divas) near and sometime a complete theme and a unique story presentation in few mandal, which shows different realities and mythological dramas, like mumbai life, Ganesha with Father Shiva and mother parvati playing with lots of other gods. This is a part of decoration to be looked unique in the festive.
People keep idol for 1 and half days ganesh pooja, 5 days, 7 days or 10 days pooja, depends upon capabilities and time they can devote to god.
On the last day (Ganesh visarjan day) people chant "Ganapati bappa moriya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar yaa' , which means dear ganesha we pray to you and request you to come again next year with lots of blessing and love.
Another slogan: “ganpati bappa morya, agle baras to jaldi aa” ("father Ganpati, come again next year").
The crowd at different places goes in lakhs while visarjan (idol is finaly given to mother river) done by devotees.
