Can someone explain to me Scientology?

I'm a Christian and not thinking about converting at all. I know the Truth. I would just like to know the basic back ground of this religion. Thank you and no foul language please. I'm not here to attack any one. =)

Update:

Lol. That's funny "tired of making avatars"

Update 2:

Lakk-I saw the video. It was funny. That is really sad how some people actually believe that.

Scientology is the belief that everything revolves around science and nothing is based on any Biblical scripture or beliefs of God. In general they believe that everything has a scientific explination and that we evolved instead of being created...

I can't do a better job than Wikipedia here so I will post the first paragraph and let you follow the link if you want more information. ... I've studied many hours regarding this group so you can answer any more specific questions if you'd like:

Scientology is a body of beliefs and related practices created by L. Ron Hubbard in 1952 as a successor to his earlier self-help system, Dianetics.Hubbard characterized Scientology as a religion, and in 1953 incorporated the Church of Scientology in New Jersey.Scientology teaches that people are immortal spiritual beings who have forgotten their true nature.Scientology promotes spiritual rehabilitation through a type of counseling referred to as "auditing".Study materials and auditing courses are made available to members in return for specified donations.

A guy wanted to make some money, so he created a so-called religion where all the converts had to pay. Everything is kept secret about it so that people don't realize it's a bunch of people getting rich off the exploitation of desperate and clueless minds. There are some elements of truth in it, of course, such as mind control, i.e., controlling your thinking.

No true religion charges people money in exchange for information.

There are a number of answers- including mine- on the yahoo question here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqAQ_...

And, no, I don't think it's "sad" that some people actually believe that.

And to Starlight--- no, Scientologists don't believe in not taking medicine. I had two surgeries and took a number of prescribed meds when I was in the cult. However, psychiatric medications and all other psychology-based treatments are forbidden.

Check out the South Park episode on Scientology (just google for it). It's quite funny and also explains the main tenets of Scientology.

L Ron Hubbard made up Scientology to make tax-free money. The number of souls you save, according to him, is directly proportional to the amount of money you give the church. He also based the religion's claims on his science fiction books and crazy pop-psychology.

The truth is that Scientology, like Christianity was dreamed up by someone who wanted to control his fellow humans with fear, and empty promises.

    To "Don't have one"

That is COMPLETELY wrong. You might want to do some research before giving completely false answer and embarrassing yourself. Why don't you go to:

All of their texts are located in one large file on thepiratebay.org Just if you're curious. Don't tell them about it.

A scientologist can, but you must pay for it. I hear the knowledge is quite expensive.
