The Second Temple Period is that period between (536 BCE -- 70 AD).

The second temple was built by people like Ezra and Nehemiah. After years passed, it was later rebuilt by King Herod.

It was the Temple that was here when Jesus was on earth.

It was where the Jewish people gathered for the reading of the Torah, prayer, and sacrifices.

It was God's desire to rebuild the temple. Nehemiah 2:4 says he prayed to the God of heaven about the temple, and because God made a promise to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:11-16, that He would hear and answer the prayers made in this place ( temple ). It was built to honor the Lord, and have a place to meet with Him and pray in. That is the reason to go to a church building, to honor God and meet with Him. Also, because He is going to build a third temple. The second temple had more glory on it than the first, even though the first appeared more glorious. God looks at the heart, not the outward appearance ( 1 Samuel 16:6-7 ).

What did you mean by second temple?

It represented the Second Exodus, God rescuing his people once again from captivity in a foreign land to re-establish them in the promised land. It was constructed to acknowledge the presence of God among his people once again.
