If you drink enough to cause liver damage, then there is nothing short of you to stop drinking alcohol that is going to help you. There is no magic pills or herbs or any number of other "miracle" things on the market that say they fix all your liver problems that will work. Since alcohol is like a poison to the liver, and drinking like you do often does cause liver problems in the long run, the best thing you can do is to take away the poison that is destroying it. If you stop drinking in the early stage of liver disease, your liver can heal and you will be fine. But once it gets to a certain point of being severely damaged with scar tissue (cirrhosis), then nothing stops the disease from progressing to total liver failure.
Regarding the one answer where a person said alcoholism does not cause liver disease, I would like to take him to my transplant center on clinic day so he can talk to a few alcoholics there trying to get transplants. I think they would change his mind.
