Creole is an entirely different language, with a different grammar, though the vast, vast majority of its words come from French. French does still continue to exert influnce on Creole, however, being the language of education and prestige within Haiti.
Creole also has words from other languages, Spanish, English, etc. It is, however, VERY similar.
