Design a 3.6 volt battery pack?

Need help on designing a long lasting 3.6 volt external battery pack for my LED trouble light. The dinky 3 cells inside only last for an hour.

    Buy three pieces size D NiMH cell, the highest AH rate that you can find in your area. Normal rate is 4AH. Roll them together in series with a strong paper or use tape. Now you make a heavy duty 3.6V battery pack. Charge it with 400mA for 10 hours before use.
