The Holocaust of WW 2 was so shocking to people that the UN was formed with built-in human rights beliefs. And this time in the US the republicans weren't able to destroy our international agreements.

After WW1, Wilson wanted to join the League of Nations - but the republicans destroyed our ability to do that thus guaranteeing that there would be a WW 2.
