A green image sound more like FLIR (forward looking infrared) technology. But it wouldn't see a person behind a solid wall, only something very thin. It senses HEAT.
You might see it in action on TV when you see a police helicopter tracking a "baddie" from the air at night and directing ground police to his/ her location. It works through thin shrubbery etc. It is very sensitive, it can even see heat shadow on the ground if a warm body has been lying on it a short time earlier.
It is also used for night searching for lost persons in open territory, or even by day searching for a warm body in cold sea water, because a person in the water without some sort of visibility enhancement is very hard to spot by eye.
X- rays need to be radiated from 1 side, but need to be displayed on the other side. You can't see what's behind a wall with x- rays.
