The most important question is what your budget will be and whether you will need or want stuff like a DVD drive (since a lot of slim laptops don't have have one anymore). For your needs you don't need anything expensive, but a little extra money ($100-$200) will affect things like how light it is and what storage capacity it has. I personally like ASUS' products quite a lot. Good balance between quality and price, and if you treat them well they last a while. Acer is more value-oriented. Cheap stuff, but bulkier, more plastic, less durable. Not to say they're bad, they just look and feel cheaper.

I have an older version of this at home: https://www.amazon.com/UX330UA-AH54-13-3-inch-Ultr... It is a great laptop, plenty powerful for home office use but lightweight and easy to carry if you travel for work. Downside is the thin-and-light aspect make it cost more, and it doesn't have a DVD drive since few people use them these days.

This one is a bit larger, but it has a 10-key, which matters if you do stuff involving Excel or data entry. Upside is it's a bit cheaper due to using a traditional platter drive, which will make it boot slower than you might be used to if your existing PC has an SSD. https://www.amazon.com/P2540UA-AB51-business-stand...

And if price is your main concern, then this is my suggestion: https://www.amazon.com/Amazons-Choice-E5-575-33BM-... This is the laptop equivalent of a '98 Honda Civic. It ain't fast, it ain't sexy, but it will get you from point A to point B as good as anything else.

For an office software, I suggest using LibreOffice. It's a free, open-source office suite that is fully compatible with MS Office documents. I actually prefer it to new versions of Office since it doesn't do all the stupid hide-the-menu sh*t that Office 2016 does.
