It's not a new theory it's an old theory. It first gained some prominence in the 70s with a book by a British journalist Stephen Knight. He claimed that the Royal family had instigated the killings, conducted mainly by the Royal Physician in Ordinary Sir William Gull. The motive was supposedly that that the Queen's grandson, and heir, Prince Albert Victor, had conducted an affair with a common Catholic shop girl and gotten her prengnant. To cover this up they decided to eliminate her friends, who knew of the baby, with the police looking the other way. But there were numerous factual problems with Knights theory and the whole thing fell apart when his original source for the theory, a man named Joseph Sickert, admitted that the whole thing was a hoax.
