    requires specialized software -- and that's not 100pc effective. since you don't have the software, you first check cnet.com/downloads for free versions that might work. and if that's not a winner, you take the thing to a technician

    If the drive is physically damaged then you may need to send it to a data center where they can rebuild the drive and recovery what they can, otherwise try recuva, sprinrite or other data recovery software.

    Spinrite 6 from GRC might do it.
