Why is religion protected against discrimination?

Why do you get special treatment for something you choose to believe?

religion is nothing more than a cult that has gotten too large. They are protected against discrimination because it is in the governments best interest to not anger a heap of brainwashed individuals. Who knows what extremism they will do if they feel there religion is being threatened, Terrorism could spike up because of it.

No one should be discriminated against. Our laws protect freedom of thought and religion. It also protects us from those who want to harm us, or support practices that are not deemed good by the majority. As long as religion does not trample on the rights of others, it is ok. People fight for and vote in laws bases on their beliefs. There is nothing immoral about this.

Note that a lack of religion is ALSO protected against discrimination.

If that was true, this Religion & Spirituality site would not be jam-packed full of discriminatory questions and answers against many religions.

Then, just go off to live in some countries of the world where massive discrimination is legally carried out by governments. Go to North Korea and try practicing a religion there. See how far that gets you if you do not bow to the state-sponsored adoration of the great leader, with Juche. Go to countries where Muslim religion enforces Sharia law and see the discriminatory practices against all religions (other than its own) by the governments. They have made it illegal for any person to try to persuade a Muslim that they might need to think twice about Islam. Prison, or even being put to death can be the punishment. Please waken up to the massive amount of discrimination against religion going on globally.

No right or freedom is absolute and sometimes religion comes in conflict with other people's needs and rights. Religion is considered a fundamental right.

Sexuality isn't protected and that's not a choice.

Idk why we cater to cultists by giving them special protections.

It amazes me how people are able to think that THEY have rights but rights for others are 'special rights'. EVERY religion is protected against discrimination, but where discrimination actually exists the govt. offers a little more protection.
