Ideally, Jon should have been King, with Bran as one of his advisors (Master of History?).

I think Bran has the better story. Bran almost died when he was pushed from the tower.

Bran is unique because as the three eyed Raven he can look through history.
I liked Jon the best because he picked up what he was taught about honor from Ned Stark, probably the most honorable character in the show. Jon never forgot those lessons.

Because lazy writing.

But does he? Sure he ended up king but there was at least one whole season where he never appeared. I'm not upset with how it ended but I sure as heck don't think his story is better.

He doesn't. I think they just sort of backed themselves into a corner, and he was the only other option (and they probably wanted to throw in a surprise ending for fans). Jon didn't want it, so it would be awkward to force him; plus he is whiny, so someone would try and overthrow him. Arya didn't want it, wouldn't take it. No one wanted Sansa. Couldn't be Tyrion, part because he is a Lanister, part because of betrayal, etc.
The thing that bugs me is Bran was always so checked out, like he didn't care, which makes sense. But then all the sudden he starts caring just enough for him to rule everyone? It totally should have been the Hound, he would have made a great king.

Because he knows all and every persons history, he has seen it all. He can tell all about Jon Snow, Arya and Sansa and everyone else. Not just his own story, but litteraly everyone's else too.
