Can you tell an employer how many days you want to work?

Update:

For example, i would like to ideally work for 3 days per week, either cooking, or baking or something food related, i have other things to do during the week.

If you're applying for a part-time job, your availability should be discussed during the interview. Be careful about being too rigid in your days and hours. Most employers are willing to work around your school schedule however.

only if the employer advertises the job as part time work

in your case, you are seeking less than full time work

most states are "at will" employers, meaning you work at the will of the employer, not your will, it is a legal thing.

you have no rights to set your own hours once hired, in an 'at will ' employer

You can tell them whatever you want, and they can fire you if they want. But to keep your job, you have to work how many days they want you to work; you can't work more than they want, and if you work less than they want, they might fire you.

Yes, and they'll either say ok, that's just what we need, or else say thanks for coming in, but we need someone for more, or less, than that. Or they might hire you, then schedule you for either more or less hours than you asked for.

Sure. And your employer can accommodate you, not accommodate you, or even laugh in your face as he or she shows you the door.

You can tell them that and if it fits their needs, fine. If not they can simply end your employment.

Yes, but the employer has no obligation to grant your request.

Yes, you can tell them what you want.

In some situations they will work with you. In other situations they will tell you that you have the option to work the schedule they give you or not work there at all.
