It all depends if your talking in general mixed breed or show cats, purebred popular breed etc. I’ve seen unusually marked DSH cats go for over $1,000. No special breeding, just uniquely marked and people will take advantage whenever ver they can and charge as much as they can.
When a certain breed, color etc becomes popular from movies or tv or even a book the price of the kittens almost triples even though they are just no lineage mixed breed cats, they breed them for their popularity just like dogs went when 101 Dalmatians was popular everyone just had to have one because the dogs were so wonderful per the movie... then the trend changed and another breed became famous etc.
Several movies that had cats in them, especially if the cat was the hero or main character, the kittens were just $25.00 before the movie was released and became popular now that the coloration or breed is recognized the kittens that sold from the previous litters went for $25.00 are all of a sudden $300 to $500... supply, need and demand.
Calicos are quite common where I live both short hair and long haired, the ones with unusual patterns from the colors against the white body such as a clover pattern, heart pattern, paw print, two tone tuxedo, the sellers see big money #nd will charge premium prices for those kittens over the more common colorings. Same breed, same litter the kittens could be a couple hundred dollars more if the markings are “perfect” in the buyers eyes.
