Why doesn’t Scotland get many thunderstorms?

I keep seeing on BBC news weather where they would say “likely to be rumbles of thunder” but usually the map only indicates the storms to be over England and Wales but the storms magically disappear when they cross into Scotland. I know Scotland does get thunderstorms on occasions but why are they so few compared to England and Wales? Is it just the surface temperature too cold or has it to do with the terrain stopping lightning activity?
