What is the weather like in Florida in winter months?

Do people still go swimming and to the beach and stuff?

It depends on what part you're in. The further south you go, the warmer it gets. And the inland areas are cooler than the coastlines.

Only in the far southern end of Florida (down toward Miami and the Keys) will the weather stay warm enough for swimming pretty well for all of the winter. It can and often does get down near freezing once in a while up in the north end of the state. the bad days there in the winter are like nice days for people up in the northeast.

In the Southern part of Florida(Miami), it is normally in the 70s and 80s during the day and the 60s at night, so people still go to the beach, in the Central part(Orlando), it is normally in the 70s during the day and the 50s at night, so it is still warm enough for the beach, but in the Northern part(Pensacola), it is normally in the 60s during the day and 40s at night, which may keep Floridians away from the beach, but invites people from Northern states, as beaches still stay open in the Northern part in winter. Even for people from Northern states, weather in Northern Florida is a surprise, as it wouldn't generally be 70s/80s as in the Southern part, and as in the perceived stereotype in Florida being warm and sunny all year. It could still be sunny in North Florida, but it would generally be cool. Still, people from Northern states would be wearing shorts and tank tops in the Northern Florida winters, as it registers as "summer weather" in winter for them.

Spent a couple years in south Miami beach, never wore a coat and some do swim all year round.

    Bring a rain coat though.

Depends on where in FL. The further south you go the warmer it will be in January.

I live in Sarasota (Siesta Key), where the temp can drop into the lower 40s at night and mid-60s during the day. For the locals those temperatures are freezing, if you stepped off the plane from Minnesota it would feel balmy. You will see people on the beach and some in the water. Be aware those temperatures are worst case, the night temps are generally in the 50s and day temps in the 70s, on those days you definitely see people on the beach. I go the beach all year round.

Further south the temps will be warmer.

It is a lot warmer than Rhode Island. Frequently it gets too cold in the northern parts of the state to swim in January and February. Except for some cold spells, swimming and outdoor recreation goes on in South Florida.
