No way to know. Met life probly put the money into a checking account for you which pays interest, until they find the beneficiaries. Only Met life would know the answer.

why didn't Met Life tell you the full value? Met Life probably wants a certified death certificate and an address where to send the insurance proceeds

Not enough information that anyone here could even take a guess and be in the ballpark.

You need to provide them with a death certificate and they need to research the beneficiaries.

They wont just tell you how much is there...the executor of the estate would have been able to find this out, assuming the dad was the owner.

It sounds like a whole life policy, which had a savings portion built into it. It wouldn't have been much with such a small policy but, even if there was perhaps, $2,000 in there - the interest would be pretty good given that it has been compounding for 20 years. Why don't you ask them?

Not enough information, and the easiest way to find out, as was said above, just contact Metlife.
