A country has oil reserves of around 2 billion barrels. Is it sufficient for a population of 1.5 million people and 300,000 motor vehicles?

The entire world has an estimated oil consumption of 100 million bbl/day. So 2 billion barrels will last 2 billion / 100 million = 20 days for the whole world. But the world is 7 billion people, so if we divide through by 1.5 million, that means 7 billion / 1.5 million ~= 5000. So 5000 * 20 days = 100,000 days ~= 275 years.

No man is an island. Nor are Islands totally reliant on their own resources.
Google Earth Kanton Island to see what happens to an island in resource
