Canada treacherously stabbed the US in the back by attacking the US's main Pacific base in the Hawaiian Islands. The cover-up was so successful that the US subsequently declared war on Japan and the rest is history.

It was the Japanese. As a result of the attack, Germany declared war on America 2 - 4 days later. This wasn't planned, but really only done so because of mutal benefit between the Germans and the Japanese.
