Hi. Notepad is a very simple text editor, and does not let You do things like create a page with a header & footer or center / left / right justify text across a line automagically.

However - Wordpad (included with all Windows) is a VERY simple "Rich text editor", but still not a full-service "Word processing program". like Office includes with MS Word.

A Rich text editor is great for things like simple signs with large, bold or underlined writing, fancy styled fonts (typestyles & artsy letters), & things ike setting the number of spaces the tab key inserts every time You use it.

Now, a word processor (like MS Word, Abiword, LibreOffice & the others uses) is a completely loaded way to use everything offered by the Rich text editor, plus customize page layouts with things like headers, footers, logos, custom sections for proper grammatical styling, spelling checkers & dictionaries for synonyms, etc., insert pictures or lists or even small charts & tables into a letter (document).

There are MANY word processors available since they've been around since computing went into the Home or small offices way back in the 80's.

You can find several to download at larger software locations like sourceforge.com, download.com, majorgeeks.com, or others. And if You need help learning to use a word processor You can find lots of instructions on Youtube.

    G'Luck!!!.

Wordpad comes on all Windows computers. Just click the cortana search button then type WORDPAD into the box and it will come up. Or you can click the start button scroll down to the "W" section click "Windows Accessories" then scroll down to Wordpad and click it.

Wordpad is exactly like Microsoft Word, it's just a watered down version that doesn't have 1000s of fancy bells and whistles, but it will provide everything you need for a letter.

If you don't like Wordpad then you can install one of the free office suites. Best is Libre Office which is here https://www.libreoffice.org/

If you don't like either Wordpad or Libre Office, then you will have to buy Microsoft Word.

There are several FREE Office Like suites out there that I know of. The are, Libre Office; Free Office; and Apache Open Office. Just do a search on the name of the software and you'll find sites to download them. See if they are available on download.com since it is a highly reputable web site for downloads. Hope this helps!
