What are different concepts of communication?

What would be considered concepts of communication? Do such concepts include nonverbal communication, formal/informal communication, persuasion, etc?

A couple of examples and very brief definitions of the concepts would be much appreciated.

@Em, described one way of categorize communication. A psychological approach

A other way would be sociological. By the group communicated with. For example:

    Intrapersonal

    Interpersonal

    Small group

    Organizational

    Intercultural communication

    Mass media communication

    Political.

There may be more designations. But this is must another way of grouping.

I work in healthcare/mental health we are always commenting on communication. Id say that verbal and non verbal communication are 2 catagories. Then under the verbal category is content, tone of voice, rate of speech etc. Under non verbal is motivation (are they facially flat etc), mood etc
