What is in the trees making a very loud, high pitched, buzzing noise?

All day and all night there is an annoying buzzing sound coming from the higher parts of the trees.

      Thanks.

That's definitely it. It's usually quiet, with the exception of the heat bugs during the summer.

There is an unusual amount of acorns on my driveway from the squirrels running around in the trees.

    Cicadas or tree frogs.

Locust. Which is not really a locust. You might check into them. I think that the grub lives in the ground for 17 years until it goes to the next phase, digs out, climbs a tree trunk, and splits out of the shell into a flying insect.
