why do/did people in the United Kingdom think that joining the European Union would be good for the economy?
ever since then , there has been herds of Eastern European, and Middle Eastern immigrants too for some reason? coming over and undercutting everyone's standard wages. how that is good for the economy and IS THAT the main reason that so many British people are against the E.U. and for Brexit?
what is reason this happened and why the people at the top are still trying to FORCE IT onto the U.K.?

Back in the 1970s when the UK joined, they voted to join the Euopean common market.... not the EU as it is now, the common market developed into the EU and over the years became a dictatorial unelected Government which makes its own laws, rules, regulations imposing them on all EU countries and heavily fining them if they fail to comply, also increases its 'club membership' costs and slowly but surely taking over as the Governing control in the country............ the British are fed up with unelected dictators, fed up of being told what to do and how to do it, by these unelected and fed up of paying them billions to rule the island...which is the main reason why they voted for Brexit and the world has seen how the EU treat the Uk over the last 3 years by refusing to negoitate a 'fair' exit as they don't wish to lose one of it strongest, wealthiest nations who pay more in to their coffers than they take out...unlike the majority of the poorer nations who have since joined which is where all the money is paid to and yes still those countries citizens leave those countries to swarm into working/living in the UK...so the UK are paying twice...Briexit is cutting off their gravy train

Who else is going to harvest the crops? We'll starve without labour.

We voted to join the common market NOT the EU. There was no referendum on joining the EU.

The original entry, for which I indeed voted "Yes", was to join the Common Market, a free market group economy.
This eventually morphed into the EEC - European Economic Union.
This in turn has morphed into the EU - the European Union.
This was never what what originally voted on and indeed would never have been voted "Yes" had it been put on the original proposal way back in 1975.

The only vote was to join the Common Market, no vote to join the EU.

We were all told we would have wine and cigarettes at European prices. That was a major reason for the 'Yes' vote at the time of the Common Market referendum.
(It wasn't true, you notice).

people at the top are controlling things behind the scenes by money, bribes, etc. controlling who gets in office, controlling who votes for what. controlling what people hear or read via the media. it is impossible for the average peasant to control what the upper elite want. and that is a mostly enslaved population working for half wages or less , just like is happening now in the USA.

The EU started out as mostly an economic pact emphasizing free trade (which had its benefits) but then later added a single currency (which the UK opted out of) and open borders (which they were unable to opt out of) and a host of other laws and regulations.
