Platform 4B at Chester railway station, England, has the words East Greenwich set into it in metal. Does anyone know why please?

It was the location of the Imperial Stone Company. The brass lettering is inset into the paving. Many companies used to use their products to advertise themselves to potnetial customers, and some still do today.

Try moving your question from 'Travel' to 'Transport - Rail' where it is more likely to be seen and answered by railway enthusiasts.

Someone on Twitter asked the same question. Apparently the platform was laid by the company.
