Imaginary numbers are a subset of complex numbers, z, namely, the subset for which Re(z) = 0; or in set notation {z| Re(z) = 0}. Much the same as the difference between negative integers and the integers, the former being a subset of the latter. So there is no essential difference between them.

imaginary numbers are purely imaginary, such as 2i, 5i, –100i, πi
complex numbers have both an imaginary component and real component.
for example 2 + 2i, –8 – 11i
