How do I control timing of updates to Windows 10?

Sometimes when I turn on my laptop, Windows 10 starts with lengthy updates when I'm in a hurry to use the computer. How do I control  timing of the updates when the update process begins without an option to defer it?Thx.

basically you cant. YOU can post phone then but you have to do it constantly as it will auto start again in a couple days.

in the Updates section of the Settimgs app, there are settings for when to update.

just leave your computer on overnight, plugged in to power, and it will update while you sleep. it can't update if it's off...

Turn off 'automatic updates' so they only start when you tell them to.

Search for Updates, then go into Windows Update settings.

You can pause the updates for up to 7 days and you can schedule a restart, that’s all that is available.

You should still be able to work even during an update
