Should I take the plane or the train?

If I take a train to Chicago it would cost $500 and I would get there at 6:12 PM. Then there is an hour drive to get to my destination. If I take the train it’s $84 but I wouldn’t get to Chicago until 10:40 PM. And then drive another hour to my destination. I’m only staying in Chicago until Sunday. So if I take the train that’s a whole day gone.

Update:

*If I take a plane it would cost $500*

ONLY YOU can place a value on four hours off extra visit time.

Only you can decide if  extra cuddle time is worth $100/hr.

By going later you save $400 that you can spend during your visit.

Some wood for the fire , a little beverage of choice, a blanket or two, some chocolate covered Strawberries, a little massage oil.....

Where is the rule you need to go to sleep at 11:40?

Suggest you have a nap on the train before you get there.

I'd take the plane with a short time at the destination, but you have to decide how important the cost is to you.

I would ask why it's worth spending money for such a short stay in Chicago.

Since your trip has such tight time limits, you have to ask yourself if four and a half more hours there is worth $416 to you.

If time is your main concern, take the fastest and most direct route.  If money is your main concern, take the less expensive route.
