What counts as a poem?

I've been writing what I imagine to be poetry..But I'm not sure. Not all of what I write rhymes. Some not at all. Here's an example;

"Dancing throughout the halls,

All cares and worries left behind,

Laughter fills our hearts,

Nothing could ever tear us apart,

My dear,please stay with my forever"

Would that be considered a poem??

    poem (noun)

    a piece of writing in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by particular attention to diction (sometimes involving rhyme), rhythm, and imagery.

    So yes, what you are writing is a poem.
