Some large trucks do have regular car horns factory installed on them.

Usually once the truck becomes large enough for air actuated brakes an air horn is installed.

A loaded truck will take more distance to stop than 'regular traffic'  a loud air horn distinctly warns 'regular' traffic something very large and dangerous is headed their way!

Horns do require a great amount of energy to make large amounts on noise.  Compressed air stores a great amount of energy to make that noise.

So you know it is a truck horn, and get out of the way!

    Because they can.

It's also good, because while if a driver hears a horn, it may or may not cause them to pay attention and take action.

But if you hear an air horn - I can guarantee you are going to snap to and do whatever you need to do to keep from being hit by a tractor trailer.

An electric horn will not do.  And the truck already has a compressor.  Might as well use it.

    You have the question backwards.

Cars have electric horns because they don't have the air available.

    Because they have air systems.

They have air compressors for the air brakes. so the air horn sounds off better...and louder than electric.  And being on the cab everyone can hear it, not just the car in front of them.
