For a father named Bill or Bob and their son named Will or Rob, their actual names can be a namesake, right?

Usually all of those names are nicknames for William and Robert.  They connect.  So, yes, they can be a namesake.  My husband's name is Bob and our son's name is Rob.

Yes i guess so. Bill is often derived from William (as is Will), and Bob is Derived from Robert (so is Rob), provided the fathers names are any of those, then yes.

Of course they are similar names.  My father in law was William but his son is Billy.

No.  As usual and as I've explained many, many times, no.

If your name is Bill and you name your son Will,  he is not your namesake.

    Like THAT will ever happen!

Know how you are named Ben and your father is named unknown?  You are not his namesake.
