Court decisions and/or federal law dictate that life insurance policies must pay out for suicide if the policy is in effect at least two years.

Life Insurance does not cover suicide for the first 2 years of the policy.

You cannot get life insurance for your parents.  They have to get it themselves.  Your parents have to see or speak with a life licensed insurance agent to do the application for them.

Most life insurance policies will not cover suicide.

The policies that do cover suicide have a "waiting period" before coverage happens.  That means if you take out a new life insurance policy and then commit suicide - there is no coverage if you didn't wait for a certain time frame to pass.  (usually two to five years).  This prevents people from taking out policies and then killing themselves to make sure their family has money.

Medical insurance pays nothing after death.  (other than final medical related costs - for example - if they try to save you)

The amount of life insurance you can get is based on how much you can afford to pay each month for the policy.  You could insure yourself for millions of dollars if you could afford the monthly premium for that level of coverage.  The recommended level of coverage is 5 times the amount you earn per year.  If you make $50,000 per year - then your life insurance should be $250,000 per year.

If you don't have a job, then a policy that would cover your final expenses would be enough.  About $10,000 would be plenty.

A funeral is expensive - but it is also about the options that are picked.  It can be anything from $4,000 to $10,000 easily.

Get help if you do feel suicidal.  Stress and sadness is temporary - death is forever.

No...most policies DO cover suicide. It's just that there's a 2 year (typically) clause that it doesn't pay for that.

Most life insurance policies do not pay for a suicide, but health insurance coverage can pay for treatment for a person who has suicidal thoughts--however if the deed has already been done, there is no insurance company that is going to cover any thing after the death.

This sounds like the daughter is planning to commit suicide and wants to put insurance in place before?  That isn't going to happen. Survivors would get nothing for that.

Most life insurance DOES pay for suicide after 2 year exclusion.

    Depends on the policy.

Two-year exclusionary periods for suicide are standard in the industry. Ask questions and read the policy language CAREFULLY before taking out a life insurance policy.

Health insurance does not cover anything for a death. You must have a life insurance in place for at least 2 years for it to pay off due to a death from suicide. Some policies will specifically exclude any payoff at all for suicide.

    It depends on the policy.

Some never cover it.  Some cover it after a lengthy waiting period.

Life Insurance pays out at death.  Health Insurance does not.

My guess is that 99.99% of 24 year olds do not have Life Insurance.

Either way, Life Insurance normally does not pay out if the insured person commits suicide.

So, no.  There would be no money.

Edit:  Social Security pays out $255 when someone dies.  My parents' funerals were about $5000 each.  If a 24 year old dies, and the parents want a half-way decent funeral, it will cost them money.
