Wasn't the point of quarantine to flatten the curve?

We've done that in the vast majority of states. It's not like we'll erradicate the virus or anything

Flattening the curve is not to eradicate the virus its so slow the spread so hospitals are not overwhelmed.  5000 hospitalised in a week is bad whereas having that over 1-3 months is not as bad and lets the hospitals deal with the influx better.

If there are too many people in hospitals they won;t have enough cxapacity for oxygen or in worse cases ventilators.

Overall the same number of people may get infected but theres a better chance hospitals will be able to treat everyone that needs it.

Hospitals have X number of beds to treat patents.  If they did not flatten the curve, they'd all be filled and there would be many many many more waiting to use those beds. The number of deaths would be VERY high, far higher then flattening the curve so that the hospitals have the ability to treat all patients instead of a percentage of them.

It may take longer but the herd (7 billion humans) will eventually gain immunity to it and in the end, fewer of them will die to it.  Last time this happened was the Spanish Flu of 1918.  500 million cases, 50 million deaths.  We are doing vastly better than that now.

This is logic a ten year old in fifth grade can understand.

It buys time, for hospitals/mortuaries to cope. It gives some a better chance of survival. If a vaccine becomes available, it will save hundreds of lives. The basic policy is being applied worldwide.

The US curve had been improved by factoring in the states like NY that have had good programs and cooperation that got this done.  The bar hopper idiots in other states want OUR NY efforts to be averaged in with their stupidity!  Many states are still climbing.  I have no problems with letting the bar hoppers and non-mask people just DIE.  RAISES THE AVERAGE IQ in three US.

You know less than half of a percent of them will die
