usually a screwdriver is all that is needed if you are replacing an existing knob.  for new door, if door is predrilled, same screwdriver.  otherwise, you have to drill the holes to do the job.  Handyman can do ... expensive carpenter not needed

involves often, fiddly ******* around,,get a short  sitting stool, so you can work w/o bending over,a phillips and a slot screwdriver, remove visible screws, bring the parts you have to a hardware store, plus the door latch plate that closes the door,,if all you need is a knob,,thrift shops often have buckets of door parts salvage  to pick through,,match up what you need with items already mounted on the door

yes.  It's fairy easy.  You'll need a phillip's head screwdriver  and a flat blade screwdriver.  If you have to buy a phillp's head, look for a  # 2

It can be done, but it ain't fun.

    Easiest way to do it...

Well, the easiest way to do it is to buy a new door with the knob hole already bored through the door.  Costs about the same as a blank door.

Second easiest way is to get a drill and a hole saw and use that.   Costs considerably more but at the end of it you own a drill.

You'd be right ONLY if the door needed to be replaced.  There was no mention of that. As the question was asked, YES it's easy.

Yes you can do it without a drill. You will, however need more than one screwdriver and some patience. However--if you're talking about putting a knob into a door without a hole for one already, then you DO need a drill--with a hole saw attachment--so you can cut the hole it will need in the door slab.  Oh--and you may also need a hammer and chisel if your strike-plate hole is not in the right spot for the new mechanism, because you'll have to cut into the frame and make a new one.

Take a screwdriver and take the old one off.  They come off easy, if you know the tricks.  Like where is the hidden catch that holds the door knob on.  So take it off the door, then put it back on.  That will tell you what tools you need and what goes where.  So, do it a couple of times and then take it to the store and buy the new one.  Take it home and put it in.

If you're replacing an existing one typically all you need is a screwdriver.

To replace, easy.  To put a new one, get someone to show you first.
