Clean out the gas tank and add fresh gasoline. Make sure the gas valve is open.

Dirty air filter.  Replace air filter.  Bad gas.  Drain the fuel and put fresh fuel.  Bad fuel filter.  Replace the fuel filter.  Weak spark.  Replace the coil.  Low compression.  Get a new lawnmower.

Stalling is usually a sign of a weak mixture. If you can locate the mixture screw try turning it outwards (anticlockwise) by a quarter turn at a time. When you get the highest speed on tick over that should be the correct setting. Also check that the fuel cap vent is not blocked as this will cause fuel starvation.
