Why do psychiatrists treat personality disorders?

Personality disorders are not mental illnesses. There’s no reason to see a psychiatrist if you don’t have a mental illness.

Although you are right in the sense that a PD was not seen as a mental health disorder it has been reclassified to be such. Seeing a psychiatrist has been helpful to many wou suffer with a PD as they are encouraged to undertake DBT or CBT as a way to help the individual to understand their feelings and emotions, how to cope and manage them in a positive way
