Is it normal for websites to get removed after 15-20 years?

I can't find an article about myself in a youth camp now-it used to be up. I also can't find my high school graduation list-it used to be up.

websites cost an annual fee to run.

if you don't pay the bills, you get shut down.

Websites are paid for like anything else, even free ones have to pay a fee for the space from advertising. So if its old odds are the owner stopped paying or on the free ones spent the money on something else and its gone. You could try the internet archive see if anyone snapshotted the site but unless you took an image its gone..
